Study at the Faculty of Dentistry

The Faculty offers a dynamic and unique suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to produce dental practitioners, oral health professionals, dental specialists and research degree graduates of the highest calibre.

The Faculty offers two innovative undergraduate programs. It offers Australia's first graduate entry dental program, the four year Bachelor of Dentistry (BDent), which utilises problem-based learning, self-directed learning and self-evaluation in education, a method of instruction which is similar to the way dentists perform.

The Bachelor of Oral Health, introduced in 2005, provides training in oral health promotion, dental hygiene and dental therapy. As a three year course taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Health Sciences, it provides students with the required theoretical knowledge and practical experience to deliver oral health promotion, dental hygiene and dental therapy services to patients throughout Australia.

The Faculty offers a suite of postgraduate programs designed to produce specialist practitioners across a wide range of disciplines together with a rigorous research training program to produce research scholars of international standing. Postgraduate clinical training is available in the disciplines of: community oral health and epidemiology, conscious sedation and pain control, oral medicine and oral pathology, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics and oral implants.

Research training programs offered via the PhD and MSc (Dentistry) are offered in a number of areas including: biomaterials science, community oral health and epidemiology, dental education, jaw function, occlusion, oral biology, oral implants, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral pathology and oral medicine, orofacial pain, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, periodontics and prosthodontics.

 Rural Pathways lion

We recommend students that are interested in a career in Dentistry through a rural pathway investigate the Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Clinical Science degree. Your chances of acceptance at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Dentistry could be increased by using this pathway.
