Dr Stevenson qualified from King's College Hospital Dental School, University of London, in 1973. After working in both hospital and general practice he completed his primary FDSRCS and then spent five years in private practice in East Africa. He obtained his Masters degree of Dental Science in 1989.

From 1989 to 1996 he was Director and surgical coordinator of the Osseointegrated Dental Implant Centre at the United Dental Hospital. Dr Stevenson was also the inaugural President of the Australasian Osseointegration Society and continues to be the surgical coordinator of the University of Sydney Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants).

He is registered as an oral surgeon in New South Wales and is currently in private practice in Sydney and lectures widely on a range of subjects and is the author of numerous publications in Australian and international journals.
