Nick completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Adelaide University before moving to London where he acquired his Masters Degree in Conservative Dentistry with distinction, and a second Masters Degree in Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) at the Eastman Institute of Dental Surgery. He then taught on the year course in Implant Dentistry, also at the Eastmam.
Dr Hocking has been an associate lecturer in fixed Prosthodontics at the University of Sydney, Westmead, lecturer and an organising committee member for the Diploma in clinical dentistry (oral implants).

He is co-coordinator of the extended "Advanced Crown and Bridge and Veneers" course, conducted by the Continuing Education in Dentistry at the University of Sydney. He is also in private practice in Macquarie Street, Sydney.
