Joe received his undergraduate and postgraduate training at Otago University in New Zealand. He has had several original papers published and has lectured to Orthodontists in Australia and overseas. He was president of the NSW branch of the Australian Society of Orthodontists in 1999 and 2000 and is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Sydney University teaching in the MDSc program. He maintains a specialist private practice in Wollongong and Shellharbour.
