Overview

This 2-day course aimed at general practitioners will feature morning lectures followed by hands-on sessions in the Faculty of Dentistry’s new state of the art simulation clinic.

At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to apply the following:

Principles of rotary Ni-Ti techniques and systems
Concepts of instrumentation, irrigation and intra-canal medications
Criteria for endodontic success
Optimal obturation techniques and materials
MTA and its use in filling the root canal and repairing perforations

TOPICS

Hand file techniques and file brands that will assist in negotiation of calcified canals
Procedural complications and how to avoid them
New Ni-Ti rotary systems and techniques
Obturating the root canal systems with different techniques
A new root filling (Resilon) with better sealing properties than gutta-percha
The use of MTA
One visit vs multi-visit Endodontics
Calcium hydroxide vs Ledermix
Irrigation: chlorhexidine, sodium hypochlorite and EDTA

HANDS-ON SESSIONS

Aseptic techniques: tips on rubber dam isolation
Irrigants: which to use and when
New hand instruments that will help negotiate curved and calcified canals
A range of Ni-Ti rotary systems (choose the system you like best!)
Simple obturation techniques
Resilon (a new root filling material) to obturate root canals

Participants are required to bring at least two extracted teeth, with accesses completed (preferably at least one premolar and one molar).
