Focusing on Paediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine/Pathology & Periodontal Disease


Overview

This one day program will focus on evidence based dentistry (EDB). What is evidence based dentistry and how is it relevant to your practice and your patients? Particular emphasis will be placed on clinical management and treatment in the following disciplines of dentistry.


TOPICS

1. Introduction
An overview of EBD

2. Paediatric Dentistry
Dr Peter WONG, BDS(hons), MDSc(Syd) , DipClinDent, FRACDS will discuss paediatric dentistry from an evidence based perspective featuring the Cochrane reports. He will cover topics including:

Swellings
Pain and restorative care in children
Hygiene and tooth brushing

3. Oral Pathology
Dr Mark SCHIFTER BDS, MDSc, FFD, RCSI (Oral Med), FRACDS (Oral Med), FICD will discuss the following topics with reference to evidence based decisions:

Antibiotic prophylaxis
Bisphosphonates and osteonecrosis of the jaws
Oral Medicine and clinical oral pathology

4. Periodontics
Associate Professor Christopher DALY, BDS, MSc, PhD, FRACDS, FICD will discuss the evidence relating to oral hygiene with particular discussion on the role of powered versus manual brushes; the effect of bristle age and wear on toothbrush efficiency; and the comparison of inter-dental cleaning aids.

The aim of this program is to provide the audience with good clinical information but also to support the clinical advice with evidence based results. The goal is to inform dentists how to search through evidence based journals to be able to make the most informed clinical decisions.
