Overview

Dental caries can be managed successfully by non-invasive methods. This course will outline the evidence that shows how existing lesions can be safely arrested and remineralised without the need for operative intervention. In addition, participants will be introduced to the protocols and monitoring systems, referred to as the Caries Management System, which guides the teaching of cariology and caries treatment at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney. This system is currently being evaluated in a randomized controlled trial involving dental practices in NSW.

NB: Practitioners participating in the randomized control trial will be invited to attend in order to discuss their experiences of the introduction of Caries Management System to their practices.

At the conclusion of this half-day course, you will be able to:

introduce this program to your practice staff
apply the Caries Management System in your practice
introduce this system to your patients and explain its benefits
coach patients in home care
monitor the outcome of treatment
reduce the caries risk of your patients
