Overview
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a common disorder, affecting approximately 4% of men and 2% of women in the middle-aged workforce, as well as children and the elderly.

In the past 15 years there has been an increasing recognition of the dental aspects of the disorder, from both pathophysiological and therapeutic points of view.

This course aims to inform you about the diagnosis and management of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, and to consider the role of the dentist in this field.

TOPICS

The epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment modalities of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Paediatric airway obstruction and dentofacial changes
Assessment of the upper airways for mandibular splints
ENT surgical techniques in treating OSA
Othognathic surgery in treating OSA
Transverse maxillary deficiency and sleep apnoea
Orthopaedic and/or surgically assisted maxillary expansion
Efficacy of the mandibular advancement splints in sleep apnoea
Use of dental appliances in sleep apnoea and in snoring patients
Long term effects of the mandibular advancement splints
