Welcome to the 2008 Program of Courses which follows another successful year in which the committee has been active on a number of fronts.

In addition to the provision of courses, we have at last seen the construction of new simulation clinics at both Sydney Dental Hospital and at Westmead Centre for Oral Health. Westmead’s clinic is virtually complete and Sydney’s is well advanced. The Committee was pleased to be involved in both the planning and the consideration of tenders for these projects and, in association with the University of Sydney and the Commonwealth Department of EET, is contributing substantially to their funding. The clinics are intended for training at all levels and it is our intention to offer you “state of the art” facilities for your hands-on courses later this year.

In another initiative, the University has made funds available to the Committee through the Faculty of Dentistry for the development of programs through electronic multimedia such as DVDs, the Internet and Podcasts. As well as producing courses that will be available “off campus” we will also be co-operating with the Faculty to produce courses for students. Obviously there will be some overlap here, so increasing the value of the production.

To this end we have welcomed Mr Ross Corrigan to the staff. He is producing pilot programs for evaluation and it is our expectation that we will soon be offering programs “direct to your office.”

We also welcome to the committee’s staff Ms Florence Tager, who assists the course coordinator and Director, Glenn Butcher with the production and delivery of the courses.

We continue to enjoy the support of industry sponsorship and in turn I ask you to support those who make the courses possible.

As always, we are grateful to the Dean, Professor Schwarz, for his leadership and support and also grateful to all our course conveners and presenters who make such an effort to ensure that you receive an outstanding learning experience.

Best wishes to you all and please enjoy our new program.
